Video explanation ↓

A coffeeshop uses 7 packets of coffee powder in a day. Each packet contains 3 3/4 kg of coffee powder. The coffee powder costs $52.40 per kilogram. How much does the coffeeshop spend on coffee powder in a day? (2 marks)

Answer: $ 1375.50

Workings

1 packet → 3 3/4 kg 7 packets → 7 x 3 3/4 kg = 7 x 3 + 7 x 3/4 = 21 + 21/4 = 21 + 5 1/4 = 26 1/4 kg

1 kg → $52.40 26 kg → 26 x 52.4 = $1362.40

1/4 kg → 52.40 x 1/4 = $13.10

26 1/4 kg → 1362.40 + 13.10 = $1375.50
